Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Juremir Vieira started his studies at the Catholic University in his native town, where he made his debut in 1989 in the roles of Borsa in Rigoletto and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, continuing them at the Music Scholl by the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra with Lorry Keller. In that period he made his debuts as protagonist in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto, Tasso Rangel’s Um romance gaùcho, Così fan tutte and La Bohème.
In 1992 he won the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra’s “Young Soloists Competition”, and as a part of the prize he performed at the Concert Hall of São Paulo’s Memorial da América Latina with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra conducted by di Eleazar de Carvalho. In the same year he won the first “Carlos Gomes Operatic Singing National Competition” and subsequently he was invited by the late conductor David Machado to sing in Carmina Burana with the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra.
Juremir Vieira gained both public and critical acclaim for his performances in the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (1994) under the baton of John Neschling and that of Liensky in Eugene Onegin (1995) conducted by Isaac Karabtchevsky at the Teatro Municipal in São Paulo.
In 1995 Juremir Vieira was a finalist and one of the awarded at the «Luciano Pavarotti-International Voice Competition» in Philadelphia. In 1996 he was personally chosen by Luciano Pavarotti to sing the roles of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and that of Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca. In the same year he performed the title role of Il Guarany by Gomes in Florianopolis, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gomes’ death.
Juremir Vieira enjoys a continuous successful collaboration with the Stadttheater of St. Gallen, where he performed the title role in Gounod’s Faust, that of Foresto in Verdi’s Attila with Carlo Franci, Alfredo in La traviata under the guidance of Roberto Tolomelli, the role of Don José in Carmen under the baton of Daniele Callegari, Alfred in Der Fledermaus, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Il duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Rodolfo in La Bohème, and Il paese del sorriso, Der Rosenkavalier, Nabucco and Les contes d’Hoffmann.
He also performed the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with the Bratislava National Orchestra, he sang Die Zauberflöte in Porto Alegre, Carmen at the Ravenna Festival, as Pinkerton in Dublin, as Rodolfo in Luisa Miller in Como and Pavia and Rigoletto at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
In concert Juremir Vieira has been heard in Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Masses in G and C and Symphony n.9, Gounod’s Messe de Sainte Cécile, Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli and Saint-Saëns Cantate de Noël (of which a Cd recording was made). He also sang in the première of Brazilian composer Frederico Gerling Junior’s cantata King of Kings and recently gained a personal success in a concert at the Teatro Regio in Parma.
